Why doesn't NBC do a segment on "signal ambiguity" ; when babies are stillborn in the hospital's even when they show a good heartbeat on the hospital's fetal heart rate monitor. I personally know of 2 cases of this in the past 9 months. Instead of monitoring the baby's heartbeat, they were monitoring the mother's heartbeat. In both cases the babies were normal but had apgar scores of 0-0-0. They had no heartbeat and were long gone yet the hospitals claim they were alive seconds before delivery. Apparently this happens all of the time. So much for medical technology. People think that hospitals are safe? Studies of homebirth show that planned homebirth of low risk women with qualified midwives are safer then any hospital or physician. NBC did a disservice to women with this report. It completely misinforms the public about the safety of homebirth. Do your research!

what a one-sided biased story!!!i hope anyone who sees this will do some research and balance out so much of the misinformation out there.i have had 4 home births, and many of my friends have as well, and not one of them chose home birth because it is 'trendy' or in 'fashion'.Even the way the presenter pronounced the midwifes name sounds biased!i feel so much compassion and empathy for this couple who lost their baby. The sad reality is babies die, whether born at home or the hospital.shame on nbc for presenting such an inflammatory, fear inducing piece of crap!!

Traditional Media; NBC and others always sensationalize other peoples trauma instead of getting the facts. A very good source of information on home birth is located at http://www.blackhillsportal.com/npps/story.cfm?ID=3430. NBC should be ashamed of their biased reporting (ACOG) of this families hardship and loss. Ainamama "Hit the Nail on the Head!", but should have hit CEO of NBC or Peter Alexander for such bad journalism and biased reporting.

This is very typical of NBC. But what can we expect when their advertising dollars come from Pharm companies. Their "expert Doctor" must get kick backs! Check out the film Pregnant In America. It's a very powerful film about a families journey to have a home birth. Lots of amazing stories. Find it at Amazon or at pregnantinamerica.com
